THEATRICAL STUDIO ON ICE The “Theatrical Studio on Ice” under the Troy Academy of Figure Skating and with the support of ICES will introduce participants to acting on an ice stage, stroking skills, and partnership communication. Working on portraying different characters will definitely help the participants in their skating careers by bringing their presentation skills to a higher level.
The formation of a “Theatrical Studio on Ice” (introducing the art of acting on an ice stage) is a concept brand new to the Metro Detroit area. Unlike the new US Figure Skating recognized sport of “Theatre on Ice,” the main goal of the Theatrical Studio on Ice is to portray a story to the audience using acting abilities with ice as a stage.
We are planning for the second production of the Theatrical Studio on Ice to be performed on Saturday August 30, 2008 @ 1 p.m. This performance will be a piece that will have a lot of solo and semi-solo parts. Skaters with all different levels of abilities (from beginning freestyle up to elite competitive and professional skaters) are encouraged to join. It is not too late to join. [Note: all participants MUST be members of the Troy Academy of Figure Skating]
The cost is $10.00 per practice session. The Ice fees are sponsored and covered by ICES. The $10 fee covers coaching costs. Costumes are an extra cost. ____________________________________________________________ INTERNATIONAL CENTER FOR EXCELLENCE IN SKATING
THEATRICAL STUDIO ON ICE SUMMER 2008 _________________________________________________________ Dear Parents & Skaters: The school year has just come to an end, and so has the spring ice schedule. Our first performance of the “Theatrical Studio on Ice” (as part of the TAFS spring Ice Show) turned into a beautiful and fun production number. I want to thank you all for a great effort! The success of this first performance was made possible by the collaborative teamwork of parents, skaters, and coaches.
I am looking forward to beginning work on producing another exciting ice show production performance. At this point in time, I am looking for a group of enthusiastic skaters, who will be working together for 2 months towards the performance of a new production piece to be performed on Saturday August 23, 2008 @ 1:00 p.m. (perhaps just for friends and family to see what we were able to achieve during the summer months).
In order to begin working on the new production, I need to have a firm idea of the skaters who will participate in the summer Theatrical Studio on Ice production number, so I can begin to cast characters & develop an organized practice schedule for the ice show piece.
I need to know the number of skaters, and the names of the skaters who will participate in the Summer 2008 – ICES Theatrical Studio on Ice, by Saturday June 21, 2008. The fees are the same as before $10.00 per Saturday practice session (checks made payable to “ICES”). Costumes are extra and will be discussed with parents.
Beginning, Saturday June 21st, at 11:00 a.m., we will start our preparation of the cast for the summer ice show number. The theme for the new show will be discussed with the participating skaters and dependent upon the level of skating skills in the cast, and also the number of skaters who sign up to participate.
By Saturday, June 28th, I will have a final idea of what we are going to do for this summer “Theatrical Studio on Ice” production piece. Vacations and occasional absences are okay, but I need to know everyone’s plans, so we can make the best use of all of the practices.
Please give me a call to pre-register, or if you have any questions. I am looking forward to a fun and exciting summer production.
